About Us

Welcome to Washington Terrace Civic Association, an active organization of neighbors that is both thoughtful and intentional about the families, homes, businesses and culture of Washington Terrace. Take a look around and let your voice be heard. You’re only a guest once, after that you’re family.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote and provide important information that impacts Washington Terrace. We are dedicated to preserve the character of our residential neighborhood. We encourage all of our neighbors to participate in building a safe environment. This organization is here to promote the enrichment of the quality of life for individual, family, and community.

History

Washington Terrace was established in April 1924 by Nelms Investment Group. Washington Terrace’s brochures in 1924 emphasized the suburban atmosphere of the neighborhood, yet observed that it was only three miles from the courthouse, long-considered the center of Houston. The brochures also proclaimed that the area would be enhanced by urban amenities like sidewalks, gutters, electric lights, telephones and paved streets. Washington Terrace currently comprises 403 homes and is a T-Shaped subdivision bordered by Alabama Street to the North, Blodgett Street to the South, Dowling Street to the West and Ennis Street to the East.
